Surat: Odisha’s Padmini Rout has become an inspiration to other Indian women players and she won the national title now for the fourth time in a row. She successfully defended her title in the IWASA 44th National Women Premier Chess Championship here at Surat Tennis Club on 6th December.
Padmini Rout started playing Chess at the age of nine (2003) because of her father's passion for the game. She was the Asian Youth Girls Chess Champion in 2005 and 2006, the National U13 Girls Chess Champion in 2006, the World U14 (Girls) Champion in 2008, the Continental Asian Junior Girls Champion in 2009, and came third in the Asian Junior (Girls U20) championship 2010 and in the World Junior Championship (Girls) (2010).
She won the Indian Women's championship in 2014 for the first time and has successfully retained it till date.
She was born in Barambagarh, Odisha and had graduated in Commerce from BJB College in Bhubaneswar.
