Bhubaneswar: Even after both the IIC and the journalist recorded their respective statements with the police, and the DCP submitted his report on the incident to DGP R.P Sharma, no action has been taken against the ‘hooligan’ IIC.
“Though all media houses had broadcasted this incident and even showed the footage in which the wheel-chair bound IIC got up and thrashed the journalist abusing him in the hospital, still no action is being taken against the erring IIC. The DGP is also silent on this issue. Five days have passed and no action is being taken against the IIC,” cried out Sanjay Mohapatra, senior journalist.
Notably, the ruffian IIC cop, reportedly under the influence of alcohol, hurled abuses on the scribe and even went on to break the latter’s mobile phone into pieces when he went to cover the news of an accident in which the IIC had got hurt.
In a vulgar display of authority and power, Ratnakar Patra sprang from a wheelchair and rained blows and kicks on the reporter, Subhakant Padhiary.
The entire episode, which unfurled on the premises of Capital Hospital was recorded by Padhiary’s colleagues who rescued the him to safety. He has filed a case at Capital Police station against Patra.
“This is not an isolated case of police attacking. Earlier also, there were such cases. I think not only the district administration but also the government is not taking any steps against such incidents. If a media person is attacked by a inebriated police cop and nothing is done against the cop, then it is really condemnable,” said Jayant Dash, BJP Yuva Morcha
