Bhubaneswar: A former defence personnel Subash Chandra Nanda was cheated of Rs 95 lakh by frauds who impersonated as employees of Central Government over telephone and subsequently duped him, the Crime Branch informed.
According to the Crime Branch, Nanda received calls from fraudsters who had identified themselves as employees of National Payment Corporation of India and IT Department etc. and advised him to avail a bonus by depositing certain amount.
In course of time, he deposited around Rs 95 lakh in different bank accounts. However, Nanda realised that he has been cheated and approached the Cyber Cell of the Crime Branch.
On the basis of his complaint, Cyber police of the Crime Branch have registered a FIR under relevant Sections of the IPC and IT Act and investigating the matter. “We are resorting to all available means to detect the case soon,” a senior police official said.
