Bhubaneswar: While COVID-19 cases continue to spiral in the State, a major chunk of these have been reported from the Capital City.
On Wednesday, Odisha reported 1,897 new Covid cases out of which 400 are from Bhubaneswar which is 21% of the State total.
Out of the 400 fresh cases in Bhubaneswar, 362 Covid positives are local contacts, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation data revealed.
With 93 recoveries during the last 24 hours, the active cases in the city surged to 1,343. The city reported one death due to COVID during this period.
According to experts, the surge may be attributed to the new and highly transmissible Omicron (B.1.1.529), the new and highly transmissible variant of SARS-CoV-2 which causes COVID-19.
In Bhubaneswar, the maximum, 41 local contact cases were detected in Patia followed by 25 cases in Nayapali and 14 cases each in Rasulgarh and Jaydev Vihar area of the city.
