Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday financial assistance of Rs 3,000 to each beneficiary under Biju Pucca Ghar Yojana (BPGY) and Centre’s Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) for repair and maintenance of the houses build under these schemes.
Total 32 lakh families will be given Rs 1,444 crore financial assistance under this scheme. The funds will be credited directly to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries. The CM, on December 21 had announced the decision of the State Cabinet about this assistance.
“We had taken a decision in 2014 for converting all Kutcha houses into Pucca ones. Within these years, total 31 lakh pucca houses have been built and the efforts will continue till there is no Kutcha house left in the State,” said Naveen.
A press release from the CMO stated that during the COVID pandemic, 12.25 lakh families have not yet got their homes, though they were enlisted as eligible under the PMAY-G. The State Government will provide financial assistance of Rs 5,000 from BPGY for repair of the houses where these families are staying, said Naveen.
Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Department Minister Pratap Jena, said the Chief Minister is committed to the upliftment of the poor and downtrodden. Participating in the programme over video conference, the beneficiaries said they have received assistance from the CM in time of need.
The programme was coordinated by Secretary to CM (5T) VK Pandian. Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mahapatra, Development Commissioner PK Jena, Panchayati Raj Department Secretary Ashok Meena and Special Project Director, Secretaries, senior officials, and Collectors attended the event.
