Balangir: The annual Sulia Jatra, well known for the mass sacrifice of animals, began in the Balangir district today while following Covid-19 guidelines.
Just like every year, thousands of birds and animals will be sacrificed amid tight security arrangements at Bada Khala in Khairguda and Sana Khala in Kumuria village of Deogaon block of the district.
Khairguda is the chief citadel of the celebration where at the altar of Sulia Budha, the presiding deity is situated. The ritual started in the morning hour. Traditional weapons were also worshipped on the occasion.
The committee members had been tested before participating in the Jatra. A massive police force has been deployed to keep the law and order situation under control.
