Bhubaneswar: The Housing and Urban Development (H&UD) Department of the Odisha government today issued a gazette notification proposing reservation of Office of Mayor for different categories in the three municipal corporations of Berhampur, Bhubaneswar, and Cuttack.
As per the notification, while the Office of Mayor of Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) and Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has been proposed for reservation for the ‘Woman category’, the Office of the Mayor of Cuttack Municipal Corporation has been proposed for the ‘Un-Reserved category’.
The H&UD Department has stated that the notification has been published in pursuance of sub-section (3) and (4) of Section 14 of the Odisha Municipal Corporation Act, 2003 read with sub-rule (8) of rule 80 of the Odisha Municipal Corporation (Division of City into Wards and Reservation of Seats and Conduct of Election) Rules, 2003.
The H&UD Department through the notification has invited objections and suggestions from all persons interested which can be filed before the Director Municipal Administration within a period of 15 days from the date of its publication.
The notification further states that any objection or suggestion received in respect of the said proposal within the specified period shall be considered by the State government.
