Bhubaneswar: Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Friday visited the Guwahati – Bikaner express accident site in north Bengal and inspected the area. He was accompanied by a team of senior officials of Indian Railways.
Taking to Twitter Vaishnaw said:
“Inspected the accident site to understand the root cause and monitor the restoration work at the site. Met injured people and their families in hospitals. My gratitude to all those who supported and assisted in saving lives.”
Vaishnaw also shared a visual on Twitter in which he was seen inspecting the tracks and engine while he was being briefed by senior railway officials about the mishap.
The death count in the incident has climbed to nine while officials said tracks have been cleared for traffic. Twelve coaches of the Guwahati-Bikaner Express derailed in the Domohani area of West Bengal’s Jalpaiguri district on Thursday evening.
