Cuttack: A city-based woman who displayed exceptional love and affinity towards her pet parrot managed to secure custody of the latter on Tuesday. The parrot went missing few days back following which the owner went into a state of agony and ran from pillar to post in its quest.
The bird was finally found today in Bhubaneswar. While the woman had announced Rs 5,000 cash award for anyone who finds the parrot, the prize was reportedly given to one Manoj Swain of Kesura area in the Capital City.
The owner of the parrot is a resident of Madhusudhan Nagar in Tulasipur area of Cuttack. She reported about the missing parrot on social media and other platforms after the bird flew away on January 5.
The woman, Prof Sasmita Behera circulated leaflets promising people to pay Rs 5,000 cash award for the people who give information about her missing pet parrot ‘Coco.’ She also published advertisements on different newspapers regarding the matter.
She was looking after the parrot with love and care as her own child. The parrot roamed freely around the house. However, after it went missing the entire family was disturbed, said Prof Behera.
“If you get any formation of Coco with long tail and red patch on wing do send and share images or videos on WhatsApp (7381491288/8583816566). The cash reward is Rs 5000,” the message on the advertisement stated.
The parrot was finally spotted in Kesura area on Tuesday. However, a forest department team is arrived at her residence and apprised the family of the Wildlife rules and regulations which prohibit these form of domestication.
Assistant Conservator of Forest, Suvendu Pradhan said that the parrot will be shifted to an enclosure in Nandankanan zoo in Bhubaneswar. “She has agreed to voluntarily give the parrot to us and it will be accommodated in Nandankanan. She will be given opportunity to meet the bird at the zoon.”
