Bhubaneswar: An elderly man died after falling into the shaft of an elevator in an apartment here on Tuesday.
The incident took place at an apartment named Hi-Tech plaza in Sunderpada under Airfield police limits.
According to reports, the man opened the grill while trying to board the lift. But the elevator had not reached the floor where the person was standing.
“The unsuspecting man stepped into the shaft not realising that the lift was yet to arrive and fell vertically downwards,” a source said.
The elderly man sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the hospital where he was declared dead.
Airfield police have registered a case in this connection and investigating into the mishap.
