Cuttack: The Orissa High Court on Monday rejected a petition filed against the Odisha Universities (Amendment) Act, 2020.
In September 2020, the State Government approved promulgation of Odisha Universities (Amendment) Act.
As per the amendment in Odisha Universities Act 1989, the Syndicate, instead of the Senate will function as the highest authority in Universities.
Though Senate is the highest authority of a university, over the year it has become dysfunctional, therefore, the concept of Senate will be done away with.
A petition was filed in the Orissa High Court challenging the amendment. The petitioner stated that the amendment is a violation of the UGC guidelines.
