Bhubaneswar: Four persons have been held in connection with the medicine stores loot incidents in Bhubaneswar, informed Police Commissioner Soumendra Priyadarshi on Thursday.
The accused have been identified as Raju Singh, Sankar Dey, Sonu alias Surjan Biswas, and Sama alias Deepak Biswas, all residents of West Bengal. The prime accused Raju was working as a house painter.
Priyadarshi informed that they were involved in the loot incidents that had occurred on January 20 in Badagada, January 21 in Nayapalli, January 22 in Lingaraj, and January 24 in Kharavela Nagar area of Bhubaneswar.
The Special Squad of Commissionerate Police led by ACP Sanjeeb Satpathy conducted a probe into the loot incidents and finally arrested the four accused persons.
They primarily targeted medicine stores. They used to divert the attention of the medicine store owners and loot the cash from the stores. During the investigation, police found that they had performed similar crimes in Berhampur.
After arriving at Bhubaneswar, they were staying in a lodge at Ashok Nagar. They were moving to Cuttack when they were intercepted by the Special Squad and arrested.
Police have seized Rs 39,000 cash, four mobile phones, two Voter Id cards, and one Aadhaar card from their possession. The investigation is underway as more persons are associated with the accused.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner has urged the business owners to be careful during transactions and properly lock their cash boxes and not leave any valuable items carelessly.
