Bhubaneswar: The Vigilance today apprehended one Jagannath Behera, Assistant Manager, TPNODL, Bangiriposhi Section in Mayurbhanj district for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 10,000 from a contractor for issuance of work completion certificate in connection with supply of electricity to market complex at Laxmiposhi.
According to an official press note issued by the Vigilance, based on a complaint by the contractor, the anti-corruption agency laid a trap today in which accused Behera was caught in front of Radha Krishna temple Bangiriposhi while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 10,000 from the complainant.
The press note states that the bribe money was recovered from the possession of Behera and seized in presence of witnesses.
Further, Rs 1.5 lakh in cash was also recovered and seized from the possession of Behera at the spot which is being verified by Vigilance officers, the press note added.
The press note says that right hand wash of Behera gave positive chemical reaction, confirming acceptance and handling of bribe money by him.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches have been launched on the rented residential house of Behera at Bangiriposhi and his house at native village Baripada, the press note added.
