Malkangiri: With three-tier panchayat polls approaching closer, the election camapigns have intensified. However, this time, digital campaigns have taken the front seat with COVID-19 restrictions in place.
Candidates are using social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram and Whats App, to reach out to masses instead of relying on the conventional methods of campaigning. A Congress candidate for the post of Zilla Parishad, Jayanti Khara of Khairaput said that digital platforms are very effective with the advent of social media and smartphones.
“Social media platforms help us to reach out to the voters in large numbers effectively. Youths, women, and adults, people of all age-groups have smartphones and are conversant with Apps like Whats App and other platforms. We are communicating our agenda and development strategy through these means,” Khara said.
However, when it comes to reaching out to the senior citizens, the candidates go from door-to-door and speak to people. “Many elderly people do not have access to mobile phones in our area. Therefore, we reach out to them personally and make a note of their concerns,” Khara added.
