Bhubaneswar: Odisha Legislative Assembly Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro has written two letters to the Centre on the Vidhan Parishad (Legislative Council) issue.
Patro on Monday shot a letter to Union Law and Justice Minister Kiren Rijiju expressing his shock over the latter’s statement in the Parliament of Union government not having received any resolution of the Odisha government for the creation of Vidhan Parishad.
Patro has requested the Union Minister to conduct an inquiry into the circumstances that led to the non-receipt of the resolution by the Union government.
The Speaker in another letter enclosed all documents pertaining to the passing of the resolution by the Odisha Assembly for the creation of Vidhan Parishad including the earlier letter of 2018 in this connection.
Worth mentioning, Union Law Minister Rijiju replying to a written question by BJD Rajya Sabha member Prasanna Acharya on February 10 had denied having received any resolution from the Odisha government for the setting up of Vidhan Parishad.
Rijiju had clarified that as per Ministry records till date it has not received any resolution from the Odisha government for setting up of Vidhan Parishad.
He had, however, added that information is being collected from the Odisha government with regard to the adoption of the resolution.
The Odisha Assembly in September 2018 had passed a resolution for the setting up of Vidhan Parishad in the State.
