Rayagada: A group of Dongaria Kondhs belonging to Kalyansinghpur block carried out a demonstration with the ballot boxes after realising that their names were not there in the voters list. The incident was reported from Railima centre in Sanakhandi panchayat of the district while third phase of rural elections were underway.
The Dongaria Kondhs belonging to Upara Masudi and Tala Masudi villages protested as the names of 69 voters did not appear in the list, said reports. The tribal people were assuaged midway by Rayagada SDPO Divyajyoti Das, Tahasildar Debasis Kar and Kalyansinghpur IIC Sukuma Hansda.
Kar said that the matter will be inquired and under what situation the voter names did not appear on the list will be looked into. The tribal people blamed the administration for the alleged fiasco. Upon the request of the Tahasildar, the Kondhs returned the ballot boxes.
