Bhubaneswar: Bringing necessary changes in the uniform of Odisha Police, the State Government had discarded the use of tunic and the Sam Browne Belt/Cross Belt.
As per a February 15 order of the Home Department sent by Special Secretary Santosh Bala to Odisha DGP, the State Government has approved the following changes in the uniform of Odisha Police.
i.) Use of tunic is completely done away with
ii.) Use of Sam Browne Belt/Cross Belt shall be limited to ceremonial occasion only when the Officer is actually carrying/wearing a sword.
A tunic uniform is a British-era khaki terry cotton overcoat worn over the normal uniform by the law enforcement officials of various ranks. They normally put on the tunic throughout ceremonial parades and different features of the police division.
Sam Browne belt or leather-based cross belt with a supporting strap that passes over the proper shoulder is worn throughout ceremonial or martial occasions. The belt was named after British military officer, Sam Browne. The belt can also be utilized by the officers to carry the sword throughout ceremonial occasions just like the Elevating Day of the power or passing out parades. The belt is brown in color and is hung from a small steel clip on the waist belt referred to as ‘frog’ with the intention to latch it.
