Bolangir: In a tragic incident, a presiding officer was killed in an accident at Goelvhadi Chhak near Titilagarh while he was returning home after poll duty.
The deceased has been identified as Sudam Charan Purohit.
Purohit, a teacher of Radhakrushna High School Kuanrgaon, Saintala was the presiding officer at Kholan gram panchayat.
As per reports, the accident occurred when Purohit was returning home on his bike after depositing ballot papers and ballot box of the fifth phase polling of the panchayat elections.
Purohit hit the police bus from the rear after the latter applied brakes at Goelvhadi Chhak resulting in the accident.
He was initially rushed to Titilagarh Sub Divisional Hospital by the police and later shifted to Bhima Bhoi Medical College & Hospital at Bolangir where he was declared dead by the attending doctors.
Purohit’s family members have demanded a government job and compensation for the next of kin.
