Bhubaneswar: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Saturday released the names of candidates for the post of Mayor for the three Municipal Corporations in Odisha.
Sulochana Das has been named as Mayor candidate for Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation, Subash Singh for Cuttack Municipal Corporation, and Sanghamitra Dalei for Berhampur Municipal Corporation.
Sulochana Das is the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities. She had also served as the spokesperson for BJD. She had joined the BJD after leaving Congress in 2017.
Thanking the BJD supremo-cum-Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and other party leaders for having faith in her, she said that the capital city Bhubaneswar represents every nook and corner of Odisha and every class of people of the State, therefore, its Mayor post is not only important but also responsible.
Subash Singh was elected to the Rajya Sabha in April 2020. With four more years to go, the party has fielded him as Mayor of Cuttack. He has also served as National spokesperson for BJD.
He said that Cuttack is the birthplace of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and the latter is carrying out efforts to develop the city. I feel proud that he has put the responsibility of the city on my shoulders. The faith of the city denizens in BJD and the Chief Minister will lead them to a path of development.
Sanghamitra is a resident of Berhampur who is the President of Biju Mahila Janata Dal of Ganjam district. She is an advocate by profession and was a Corporator earlier. Prior to joining BJD, she was also the President of Mahila Congress of Ganjam district.
After being nominated as Mayor candidate, she said that under the leadership of party supremo she will be carrying out her duties diligently.
