Bhubaneswar: With the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a yellow warning for seven districts in the State predicting heatwave, Special Relief Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Jena on Thursday issued an alert to the Collectors.
In a letter to Collectors of Angul, Boudh, Bolangir, Jharsuguda, Nayagarh, Sambalpur and Sonepur, Jena stated that preparatory and precautionary measures should be effected to avert any eventuality.
According to IMD’s forecast, heatwave conditions are very likely in these districts till March 18. However, from Saturday onwards, the temperature is likely to drop by 2 to 3 degrees Celcius.
In the letter to Collectors, Jena asked for the maximum circulation of information pertaining to the weather condition which is likely to prevail over the next two days.
“Special care should be taken for sick, elderly, and children to ensure that they remain indoors. The public is advised to take precautionary measures while moving outdoors during noon and afternoon time.”
The situation should be closely monitored and action, as deemed, may be initiated, the SRC added.
