Puri: At least eight persons sustained burns when firecrackers suddenly caught fire at the Dola Melana at Sainsa Bhagabatipur under Balanga police limits in Puri district today.
The injured were initially rushed to the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Pipili. Three of them have been shifted to a hospital at Bhubaneswar as their health condition deteriorated.
Like every year, this year too bursting of firecrackers was organized along with Harihara Bheta on the occasion of Dola Purnima.
People in thousands from Sainsa and Bhagabatipur mouzas had gathered to watch the spectacle when the mishap occurred.
Suddenly, firecrackers caught fire and eight persons were injured.
Following the mishap, the event was suspended. Balanga police have launched an investigation into the incident.
