Bhubaneswar: The Crime Branch of Odisha Police will be investigating the sensational kidnapping and murder case of cameraman Manas Swain. On Wednesday, DG Police Sunil Bansal ordered the CID-CB to take over the investigation of this case from Bhadrak police.
Swain’s murder case was being investigated by Chandbali police on the basis of a case registered on February 14. The cameraman went missing on February 5, as per his family. A team of the Crime Branch led by a DSP-ranked officer will probe the case, said Crime Branch ADG, Sanjeeb Panda.
The State Police Headquarters stated, “DGP, Odisha has ordered for taking up of investigation of Chandbali PS Case No. 63 dated 14.02.2022 of Bhadrak District by CID-Crime Branch in view of its gravity and involvement of multiple districts.”
So far, five persons, including former Director (Technical) of Information and Public Relations (I&PR) Department Niranjan Sethi have been arrested. However, the police remain clueless about the whereabouts of the prime accused Sarmista Rout, and her associate.
