Balasore: A bus driver was assaulted and robbed by some unidentified miscreants on National Highway 60 near Jaleswar in Balasore district on Thursday.
Bus driver Karunakara Das informed that some passengers had booked the bus Nilamadhab from Bhubaneswar to Kolkata. He was en route when he overtook a car near Rajghat in Balasore.
A few minutes later, the car overtook the bus and signalled it to stop. When Das stopped the bus, three people got down from the car. They manhandled him and abused him verbally before leaving the spot.
However, on the way, the trio had gathered another 20 to 25 persons who intercepted the bus again near Jaleswar. They assaulted the driver, robbed him, and also damaged the bus.
The miscreants did not touch any of the 20-odd passengers. On getting information, Jaleswar Police reached the spot and have initiated a probe into the matter.
