Bhubaneswar: More than 800 cadets and old boys of Sainik School Bhubaneswar participated in the 5th Biju Marathon which was organised by the Old Boys Association of the school and Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC) on Sunday.
To commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of the School the marathon has been renamed as the ‘Diamond Jubilee Marathon’ of the Sainik School Bhubaneswar. This event was conducted in collaboration between the Old Boys’ Association and OMC with a purpose to spread the message of Clean, Green and Healthy Bhubaneswar and the spirit of ‘Run for Fun’.
The event was flagged off by Gp Capt S Dominic Rayan, Principal, Sainik School Bhubaneswar joined by Hardaman Singh, president OBA, Madhusudan Padhi, vice president, Amitav Swain, former president and other office-bearers of OBA.
The event started from the Gandhi Stadium of the School passing through NALCO – Kalinga Hospital square, Jaydev Vihar, Acharya Vihar, Apollo Hospital and culminated at the starting point, covering 7.3 kms. Cdr Pritika Sharma, Administrative Officer and Cdr Usha Sangwan, Vice Principal, co-ordinated the event.
The Marathon was conducted by B Pradhan, Sr Master and AK Mukherjee. Cdt Jeevan Dehury won the marathon in senior category while Arnav Deepak Barik in OBEAN category. In girls category Cdt D Eleana Maria was the winner whereas Cdt Manish Chhatar stood first in Junior boys category. They were awarded by the Chief Guest, Padmanav Behera, Minister of Transport and Commerce, Odisha.
