Berhampur: The Inspector-in-Charge of Gangapur police station Devkumar Gamanga was killed in a firing incident three days back. Ganjam police are yet to confirm whether it was a case of suicide or a misfire, or anything else which led to Devkumar’s death.
On Monday, Ommcom News was in possession of an exclusive audiotape in which Devkumar’s sister was requesting help, from a senior police official for her brother.
Krushnapriya Gamanga, the sister of deceased Devkumar works with the State Government. Krushnapriya made a call to a senior police official to inform him that Devkumar was holding a firearm and saying that he would kill himself, the audio revealed.
She continued that her brother was facing a psychological issue and was in a vulnerable state at his home. “My mother is there alone at home with Dev,” she said to the senior official over the phone.
The police officer on the other end of the phone assured Devkumar’s sister to send assistance immediately. According to reports, it was minutes after this call, Devkumar was found dead at his official quarters.
While mystery shrouds the IIC’s death a special team of the Human Rights Protection Cell, Ganjam, led by the Additional SP of the district is investigating the case.
