Bhubaneswar: Simmering heat wave conditions prevailed in Odisha as eight places in the western part of the State crossed the 40 degree Celsius bar.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Titilagarh recorded 42.7 degree Celsius, the highest maximum temperature of the day.
Temperature soared in the Western Odisha towns of Bolangir (42.5 degree Celsius), Sonepur (41.9), Jharsuguda (41.2), Bhawanipatna (41.0) and Boudh (41.0).
Capital city Bhubaneswar remained cooler by recording a maximum temperature of 34.8 degree Celsius as compared to its twin city Cuttack which recorded a maximum temperature of 38.1 degree Celsius.
The southern Odisha seaside town of Gopalpur was the coolest in the State with a maximum temperature of 30.2 degree Celsius followed by Puri and Paradip each with a maximum temperature of 32.0 degree Celsius.
In view of the ‘yellow warning’ issued by the IMD indicating heat wave conditions is very likely to prevail in the districts of Mayurbhanj, Bargarh, Sonepur, Boudh, and Balangir up to 8.30 AM on Thursday and over the districts of Sambalpur, Bargarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Bolangir, Angul, and Kalahandi from 8.30 AM of Thursday to 8.30 AM of Saturday, the SRC’s office has issued an advisory to the Collectors of the aforementioned districts.
Public have been advised to take precautionary measures for hot weather while going outside during noontime in these areas.
The advisory says that heat is tolerable for the general public but there is a slight health concern for vulnerable people like infants, the elderly and sick people.
