Bhubaneswar: Development Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Jena on Monday presided over a meeting to oversee the preparations for Capital Foundation Day celebrations scheduled on April 13. Secretary, I&PR Department Bishnupada Sethi shared the details about preparations for the Capital Day celebrations while Director Indramani Tripathy listed the schedule for the event.
It was on April 13, 1948, Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru had laid the foundation stone of Bhubaneswar as Capital City of Odisha. Jena advised officials to ensure that the Day is celebrated with full honour and spirit to observe the anniversary of the Capital City.
Involve Government departments, BMC, people’s representatives, and Capital Day celebration committee members apart from cultural organisations to ensure celebrating the day in a grand manner, he added. The I&PR department, BMC, Odia Language and Culture Department, Khurda Collector, and Police Commissioner were advised to take appropriate steps for a successful Capital Day event.
On April 12, parade practice will be held for the event. On the following day, a joint parade will be presented before Assembly Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro at the Vidhan Sabha. The parade will be held from Rabindra Mandap to Jaydev Bhavan.
During the evening cultural events have been scheduled at the Utkal Mandap. Similarly, from April 13 to 15, cultural events will be held to mark Capital Foundation Day. In 2023, Odisha will celebrate the 75th year of Capital Foundation Day. This event should be a grand celebration, Jena advised officials.
Among others, Additional Chief Secretary Madhusudhan Padhi, Works Secretary VV Yadav, Special Secretary (Home) Dr Santosh Bala, Municipal Commissioner Sanjay Singh, Khurda Collector Sangram Keshari Mahapatra, and DCP Dr Uma Shankar Dash were present at the meeting.
