Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) began an eviction drive at the daily market area near Ganesh Mandap in Jharpada area on Friday.
Around 10 JCBs are carrying out the eviction drive. Ten platoon of police force has also been deployed in the area to prevent any untoward situation.
Reportedly, the said land belongs to the General Administration Department of the State Government. The department has handed over possession of around 3 acres of the land to the BDA for the construction of a market complex.
The BDA had issued a prior notice regarding the eviction drive and prohibitory orders under section 144 had also been imposed in the area.
However, protesting the eviction drive, some local traders and BJP leaders have staged a road blockade on the Cuttack-Puri road. The protestors have been detained by police.
