Puri: Puri Municipality officials and police today raided hotels on the sea beach for allegedly serving stale food to tourists.
Health officer of Puri Municipality Dr Sunil Tarai, Food Safety Officer Rajeshwari Pati along with local police conducted joint raids on four hotels located between Digabareni Chhak and Acharya Harihar Chhak.
While one hotel’s food safety license was found to have expired, another had a court case pending against it.
The team imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 each on the other two hotels.
“Several cases of diarrhoea have been reported. We have received complaints. We have found them to be serving stale food of 2-3 days. Our intention is not imposing fine but spreading awareness among them,” said Sunil Tarai, Health Officer, Puri Municipality.
“We are conducting inspection as per FSSAI guidelines on a regular basis. Most of the hotels were closed for the Corona pandemic and are gradually opening. We are sensitizing them on hygiene and cleanliness,” stated Rajeswari Pati, Food Safety Officer.
