Bhubaneswar: The Transport Department undertook a special drive to check for fitness and validity of vehicles plying school students. On the first day of the weeklong drive, total 235 challans were issued.
Buses and other light vehicles engaged in transporting school students in the State are being checked. As many as 105 buses, 85 light vehicles/van and 44 auto rickshaws were inspected on Wednesday.
“173 vehicles detected without valid Fitness Certificate, 85 of them did not have permit, 98 of them did not have insurance, 51 detected without PUC certificate, 25 did not pay tax and 59 of drivers did not have Driving License. Two buses have been seized in Rourkela,” a senior official of the Transport Department stated.
