Bhubaneswar: The State government has decided to setup 52 model mandis in different parts of the State to streamline the paddy procurement process and make it more effective, said Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare and Cooperation Minister, Ranendra Pratap Swain here on Monday.
Swain was chairing a meeting to review the progress of differnt projects including construction of 128 multi purpose godowns. “In the first phase 52 mandis will be set up. Priority will be given to districts where the procurement is significant,” he said.
All forms of facilities will be available in these Model Mandis to help the farmers trade with their produce at ease. The efficiency of Mandis will improve with the transition to ‘model’ ones, the Minister added.
Similarly, in the first phase, 128 multi purpose godowns will be constructed where PACS/LAMPS have their own land but do not have resources. Every godown will be built at a cost of Rs 26 lakh. Swain instructed officials to complete the godowns soon and expedite PACS/LAMPS audit process.
