Bhubaneswar: As a precautionary measure against the possible cyclonic storm, 175 specialised teams of Odisha Fire Services have been formed to deploy in the likely affected districts to restore the post cyclonic activity, informed Fire Service DG Santosh Upadhyay on Saturday.
Each Special team are having Power Saw, Combi Tools, Tower Lights, and other rescue equipment with them. They will be working under the direct supervision and instruction of the concerned district Collectors.
As per the instruction of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRF), staff members of different fire stations have carried out inspections of the necessary equipment such as ASKA lights and generators at the cyclone shelter sheds in the vulnerable districts.
Apart from this, 339 Fire Stations of Odisha Fire Service are in readiness along with all modernized equipment to meet any eventuality.
Upadhyay emphasized the deployment of Fire Services personnel in the most affected areas as per the requirement of the local administration. He also instructed all Fire Service personnel to follow the Covid guidelines during their work.
Further, in view of the above cyclone and heavy rainfall, it has been decided to pre-position the pumps at the water logging areas of different towns like Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Puri, etc.
While the IMD had informed that the possible cyclone is to make landfall by May 10, the exact location of landfall is yet to be ascertained. However, as per the instruction of the SRC, teams of Odisha Fire Services will be deployed at 18 exclusive locations in Bhubaneswar, said Upadhyay.
The teams equipped with pumps and other necessary equipment will tackle waterlogging and possible uprooting of trees.
