Bhubaneswar: The Vigilance today arrested two government officials and a private person on charges of corruption in two separate cases and forwarded them to court.
The accused are Manasi Jena, Inspector of Police, Vigilance, Sambalpur Division; Jena’s associate private person Mukesh Sahoo; and Neena Beura, In-charge Superintendent of Excise, Rayagada.
“In two separate cases, two government officials and a private person have been arrested and forwarded to court. In Sambalpur the Vigilance Inspector has been arrested along with her associate, Rs 10 lakh bribe money has been seized. Investigation is underway,” informed Vigilance Director Y K Jethwa briefing reporters here today.
That apart based on reliable input at around 11.30 PM yesterday the interception team of the Vigilance intercepted Excise Superintendent of Rayagada in between Bhubaneswar and Khordha and has recovered Rs 6 lakh cash from her and she has been arrested and forwarded to court after registration of a case against her under Prevention of Corruption Act by the Bhubaneswar Vigilance Division, Jethwa added.
“Odisha Vigilance is committed to take strong actions against corrupt practices of government functionaries, including its own. Intelligence gathering has been intensified and Search and Interception teams are kept in readiness round the clock in the State for acting on verified inputs. Also, an Internal Vigilance Unit has been activated under the Cell Division at the Vigilance Directorate which exclusively keeps a watch on the activities of Vigilance Officials. With these steps we hope to continue strong measures against corruption,” the Vigilance Director asserted.
