Gurugram: Six accused, including three policemen, were arrested in Gurugram on Tuesday for allegedly helping two criminals escape from police custody.
Those arrested include three cops who were escorting the criminals and three alleged accomplices of the escaped convicts, the police said.
A preliminary probe revealed that there was gross negligence on the part of the three police officials identified as head constables Nishu, Anil Kumar, and constable Naveen deployed as escort guard. They were arrested and produced before a court on Tuesday.
The police have also arrested Arvind alias Anoop, Ajay Jakhar and Nitin Bhardwaj, a guest house owner who allegedly helped the convicts to escape.
“During the inquiry, it was revealed that Arvind and Ajay came on a scooty and provided its key to the culprits at the hotel located in Sector-38. The culprits fled on the scooty. Efforts are underway to nab the absconding criminals,” Preet Pal Sangwan, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) crime, said.
The incident happened on Monday evening. According to the police, the duo was taken to Delhi’s LNJP hospital for a medical check-up and were on their way back. They stopped at a guest house located in Sector-38, Gurugram, from where they escaped from custody.
The escaped criminals have been identified as Abhijit and Rakesh, who were arrested on charges of rape and robbery.
A case under relevant sections of the IPC was registered against the cops at the Sadar police station in Gurugram.
