Bhubaneswar: The Union Cabinet on Tuesday approved the ‘Agnipath’ scheme for recruitment in the armed forces. While it has been drawing massive flak across the country, here are some details related to the scheme.
- Both boys and girls can apply for the armed forces under the scheme.
- The entry age is between 17 and a half – 21 years of age (23 years for the year 2022).
- Enrollment will be on an ‘All India All Class’ basis.
- The first Agnipath entry rally recruitment will start from September to October 2022.
- Enrolment will be undertaken through an online centralised system with specialised rallies and campus interviews from recognised technical institutes.
- After four years of service, 25% of the Agniveers will be retained in the regular cadre and serve for a full term of another 15 years.
- The salary package for the 1st year is Rs 4.76 lakh with upgradation of up to Rs 6.92 lakh in the 4th year.
- The other 75% of Agniveers will be demobilised, with an exit or “Seva Nidhi” package of Rs 11-12 lakh.
- Seva Nidhi package (tax-free) is partly funded by their monthly contributions.
- Agniveers will be provided non-contributory Life Insurance Cover of Rs 48 lakh for the duration of their engagement period in the Indian Armed Forces.
- They will also receive skill certificates and bank loans for help in their second careers.
