Dhenkanal: In a bid to ensure the safety of the elephants the Dhenkanal forest department plans to install automatic sirens near its national highway. This sensor-based siren will sound when elephants cross the road to warn drivers at a distance of up to 1 km.
The Dhenkanal Forest Department plans to install automatic sirens near the NH at various places. As soon as the elephant arrives, the siren will sound and the red light will turn on. The forest officer will also receive a message on his mobile phone, informed Dhenkanal DFO Prakash Chandra Gogineni.
The elephant siren project has been started on an experimental basis on Dhenkanal-Anugul National Highway 55 near Rassingh and Haldiabahal. It will be monitored by a voluntary organization, added the DFO.
