Cuttack: Sasmita Rana, Inspector-In-Charge (IIC) of Kishannagar Police Station in Cuttack district has been suspended by the DGP for negligence in duty.
During the suspension period, she will remain under the disciplinary control of I.G. of Police, Central Range, Cuttack. She will draw the subsistence and dearness allowances as admissible under Rule 90 of Odisha Service Code.
A departmental proceeding has been initiated against Rana after the youth who had tried to self-immolate in front of the police station on June 23 succumbed to burn injuries.
The deceased identified as Gunanidhi Bisoi had lodged a complaint at the police station over a property dispute. However, as there was inaction over his complaint, he poured petrol on his body and set himself ablaze in front of the police station.
Bisoi had been rescued and admitted to the hospital in a critical condition. He had received over 90 percent of burn injuries on his body. He passed away during treatment on June 24.
