Puri: Ahead of the Gundicha Yatra (onward leg of the annual Rath Yatra) of Lord Jagannath and his siblings on July 1, the police today conducted a mock drill of chariot pulling.
The mock drill was held at the Reserve Police Line Ground here to deal with law and order situation, crowd management and stampede-like situations.
The mock drill was conducted by the policemen to be engaged in pulling the three chariots in the presence of ADG Police RK Sharma and magistrates. SOG jawans also took part in the mock drill.
The policemen practised smooth and disciplined pulling of chariots amid the crowd while maintaining inner and outer cordons.
A massive 180 platoons of police will be deployed for the smooth conduct of Rath Yatra. The mock drill included the creation of a green corridor for ferrying patients to the hospital amid the crowd.
IG (Central Range) Narasingha Bhola, IG Debadutta Singh, DIG Jayanarayan Pankaj and Superintendent of Police Kanwar Biswal Singh led by ADG Police RK Sharma along with magistrates also took part in the mock drill.
