Bhubaneswar: Nine-year-old Aradhya has made the State proud by being the youngest girl from Odisha to scale six mountains in six days. She is the daughter of Ganesh Chandra Jena, the first male mountaineer from Odisha to reach the peak of Mount Everest.
Aradhya, a Class IV student, had participated in a trekking programme in Himachal Pradesh that commenced on June 17. Even though she could not climb any summit, she claims to have achieved the rare feat of scaling an average of 15,000 feet every day at such a young age.
Inspired by her father’s Everest feat, Aradhya aims to be the youngest Everester in the country. Her father Ganesh had also joined Aradhya’s campaign. Upon returning to Odisha on Tuesday, both of them received a grand welcome at the Bhubaneswar Railway Station.
It is pertinent to mention that Ganesh had reached the peak of Mount Everest on 18 May 2011. He is the first Indian climber who did a traverse climbing of the Elbrus from South side and returned to North side.
