Bhubaneswar: Police on Monday picked up the mother of BJB college student Ruchika Mohanty while she was staging dharna in front of the institute demanding justice for her daughter who had allegedly committed suicide inside the college’s hostel.
Additional DCP Prakash Chandra Pal said that the police had received a complaint from the college authorities. Based on it, police picked Ruchika’s mother and other protesters.
Pal also said that the police is not against the dharna, but it should be held at the designated place that is Lower PMG Square. Staging dharna anywhere else can disturb public.
He also informed that till date around 31 students of the college have been interrogated in connection with the case. More persons are to be interrogated to find more details about the case.
Ruchika was a student of Plus III, Arts at BJB Autonomous College here. She was staying on campus in one of the ladies’ hostels of the institution. Her body was recovered from the hostel on July 2.
