Bhubaneswar: At present there are 20,260 prisoners present in jails across Odisha, according to a written reply given by Minister of State for Home Tusharkanti Behera in response to a question from BJD MLA Umakanta Samantray in the Odisha Assembly on Monday.
Among them, there are 16,876 under-trail male prisoners and 623 are female prisoners. Male prisoners waiting for capital punishment are 11. Number of prisoners serving life imprisonment is 1543. A total of 39 jails are overcrowded.
