Bhubaneswar: The School and Mass Education Department has written to Sainik School about alleged ragging incident in the institution. Principal Secretary Bishnupada Sethi on Saturday wrote to the principal of Sainik School here to prevent ragging in the academic institution.
“It has come to my knowledge that the practice of ragging of junior students by the senior students of your academic institution is going on where students are subjected to mental and physical harassment,” the letter read.
Ragging is in complete violation of the Anti Ragging Act, 2009 and subsequent acts and rules stipulated by the Center and states. Ragging is a criminal offense according to the Supreme Court verdict, he said.
He requested the principal to inform the School and Mass Education department about the measures taken to prevent ragging. “If it is happening despite your best efforts, then what is your action plan to curb this,” Sethi stated.
