Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister of Odisha, Naveen Patnaik, in his reaction soon after Draupadi Murmu took oath as the 15th President of India said that he is delighted and honoured that an Odia lady is holding the highest office in the land.
“I was absolutely delighted and honoured that an Odia lady should be holding the highest office in the land and also for her being a tribal,” said Patnaik. He also congratulated the people of the State for having an Odia lady as the President of India.
Murmu secured victory in the Presidential poll, the results of which were declared on July 21, after defeating Opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha by a huge margin. She hails from Rairangpur in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district, which burst into celebrations after hearing the news of her victory.
