Bhubaneswar: Odisha has reported total 24,365 suicidal deaths during the last five years, Minister of State, Home Department, Tusharkanti Behera said today in the Odisha Legislative Assembly.
Behera was responding to a question raised by Congress MLA Suresh Routray. According to Behera’s response, every month there are around 400 suicides in the State, and everyday around 13 such cases.
Another question raised by Routray was about the number of custodial deaths in the State.
Behera replied: “There have been 25 custodial deaths in the State during the last five years. The inquiry has been completed in four cases while probe into the remaining 21 are still underway.”
