Bhubaneswar: Due to the unavailability of road connectivity, an ASHA worker and an ambulance driver along with villagers carried a pregnant woman on a sling for around one and a half kilometres to reach the ambulance and take her to a nearby health centre.
Reportedly, Arati, wife of Arun Pradhan of Tetargan village under Sarangada gram panchayat of Kandhamal district complained of labour pain on Monday. On getting information, the local Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) reached the spot and rang up 102 ambulance services.
However, the ambulance was not able to reach the village due to the absence of a motorable road. As a result, ambulance driver Jitu Majhi parked the vehicle one and a half kilometres away from the village and reached Arati’s house on foot.
Subsequently, the villagers, the ambulance driver and the ASHA worker carried Arati on a sling and crossed a canal in the forest to reach the ambulance. From there she was taken to Sarangada Community Health Centre where Arati gave birth to a baby boy.
