Bhubaneswar: A low pressure area (LPA) is likely to form over Northwest and adjoining Westcentral Bay of Bengal around August 7 (Sunday). The Southwest monsoon has been subdued over Odisha, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) stated.
While moderate to heavy rains are expected to occur in different parts of the State till August 8, the IMD has issued a yellow warning for the next 24 hours for the following districts: Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nawarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj.
“Thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over these districts, during the next 24 hours,” the IMD stated.
“The monsoon trough at mean sea level now passes through Bikaner, Shivpuri, Jabalpur, Raipur, Bhubaneswar and thence southeastwards to east-central Bay of Bengal. The cyclonic circulation lies over West-central Bay of Bengal & adjoining Andhra Pradesh coast and extends upto 4.5 km above mean sea level,” the IMD said.
Light to Moderate rain / thundershower has occurred at a few places over the districts of South Odisha & North Interior Odisha and at one or two places over the districts of North Coastal Odisha with Heavy Rainfall at one place over the district of SUNDARGARH of North Interior Odisha.

Balisankara (Sundargarh) 9, Harabhanga (Boudhgarh) 6, Gunupur (Rayagada) 5, Bhuban (Dhenkanal) 5, Lephripara (Sundargarh) 4, Tiring (Mayurbhanj) 4, Jeypore (Koraput) 3, Jharsuguda (Jharsuguda) 3, Madanpur Rampur (Kalahandi) 3, Bamra (Sambalpur) 3, Tangarpali (Sundargarh) 3, Deogaon (Jharsuguda) 3, Puri (Puri) 3, Jujumura (Sambalpur) 2, Narla (Kalahandi) 2, Jenapur (Jajpur) 2, Altuma (Dhenkanal) 2, Polsara (Ganjam) 2.
The highest maximum temperature of 35.4 degrees Celcius was recorded at Sonepur and the lowest minimum temperature of 19.0 degrees Celcius was recorded at Boudh.
