Bhubaneswar: Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mahapatra on Friday surveyed the progress of Kanpur multi-purpose project over river Bramhani in Keonjhar district. Engineers of the NHAI were asked to complete the bridge on the NH passing near spill way of the project. Mohapatra directed to complete it by end of October this year.
A target was set to complete construction of the dam in all respects by end of 2023. Chief Secretary directed the field level engineers of Water Resources Department to prepare the week and month-wise work schedule, and follow up those through expeditious implementation.
The field-level problems relating to construction of dam, canals and resettlement were discussed and resolved.
Around 2438.29 cr would be invested in the project. It would irrigate 29578 hectors of land in 244 villages of 5 blocks namely Champua, Jhumpura, Patna, Keonjhar Sadar and Joda.
Around 14.48 lakh people would be directly benefited by the project. Besides, the project woul yield 4.2 MW of green hydro power.
Mahapatra also visited Kanjiapani eco spot for exploring the possibilities of futher development of eco-tourism facilities there.
He directed Collector Asish Thakare and DFO Dhanraj HD for preparing the DPR. He also directed to develop the project with active involvement of local community and youths so that they would get additional source of livelihood.
