Bhubaneswar: The peak flood phase is on, the situation is critical but under control. Today (Wednesday) night remains critical, so everyone (people in the Mahanadi basin need to be watchful, Special Relief Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Jena said.
As per the preliminary assessment, 4.67 lakh people have been affected by the flood in 1,757 villages while 2.50 lakh have been marooned in 425 villages. Similarly, 60 Wards in 10 Urban Local Bodies are hit by the ongoing flood, the SRC said.
“We are running free kitchens for a population of 60,000 in the flood-affected areas. On the other hand, an adequate number of polythene sheets have been stocked to deal with rainfall in the wake of an upcoming low pressure,” he added.
Mini mineral water plants have been installed in Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Kendrapara and Cuttack districts. The administration, elected representatives, local people and engineers, all are working in cohesion to combat the flood, the SRC said.
