Sonepur: Chanchala Sahoo, the widowed woman from Mahada village under Ulunda block of Subarnapur district whose son had abandoned her for fear of ostracisation by the villagers has been rescued by the local Block Development Officer (BDO) and has been admitted to the district headquarters here.
According to reports, Chanchala had a wound on her leg. Despite the best efforts and treatment at different places including the district headquarters hospital here by her son, the wound did not heal.
As the family’s economic condition was very bad it could not afford further medical treatment for Chanchala. In the due course of time, the condition of her wound worsened.
Members of Chanchala’s community threatened to ostracize her son if he did not get her admitted to a hospital or made her stay elsewhere.
Upon hearing the demand of the community members, fearing ostracization of her son by the community, poor Chanchala somehow managed to crawl out of her home to stay away near the river bank.
Few villagers built a hut for her using polythene sheets on the bank of the river for her to stay.
Somehow news reached Ulunda BDO who after rescuing Chanchala got her admitted to the district headquarters hospital here where she is undergoing treatment for her wound.
