Bhubaneswar: The Hirakud dam was releasing 4.10 lakh cusec water through 24 sluice gates at 12 noon today while the inflow was 3.23 lakh cusec. The discharge at Mundali barrage was 9.48 lakh cusec.
Special Relief Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Jena informed that the water level of the reservoir was 621.93 feet. A decision has been taken to close four more gates and the water will be released through 20 gates.
The authorities are on alert and working with various departments for relief and restoration works. The Energy Department has restored the power supply of 2,43,346 out of 2,77,959 affected consumers. Power will be restored for remaining consumers after the water recedes.
The Health Department has set up 159 medical camps and 110 mobile health teams have also been deployed in affected areas. They are distributing necessary medicines and treating people. Five cases of snakebite have been reported in the last two days.
A total of 193 Veterinary teams have been deployed in the affected areas. 285 cattle camps have been organised and over 5 lakh cattle have been vaccinated in the last two days, said Jena.
